What is food allergy immunotherapy?

Food allergy immunotherapy is a treatment designed to gradually retrain the immune system by introducing very small, controlled amounts of the allergenic food. Over time, this can help reduce sensitivity and lower the likelihood of severe reactions.

What are food challenges, and are they safe?

A food challenge is a closely monitored procedure where a patient eats tiny, increasing amounts of a food that may be causing symptoms. This helps confirm whether a true allergy exists or supports the desensitisation process. These challenges are carried out by specialists, ensuring a high level of safety.

What is an antibiotic challenge?

An antibiotic challenge involves giving a patient a small dose of an antibiotic they may be allergic to, under expert supervision. This allows clinicians to check whether the allergy is still present or determine whether desensitisation is appropriate.

Who is a good candidate for allergy immunotherapy?

Individuals with confirmed allergies who continue to struggle with symptoms despite avoidance measures or medication may benefit from immunotherapy. Our team carefully reviews each patient’s history and test results before recommending treatment.

Is allergy immunotherapy safe?

When performed by trained clinicians in a controlled environment, immunotherapy is considered both safe and highly effective. Patients are monitored throughout each session to promptly manage any reactions.

What is the difference between an allergy and intolerance?

Allergies involve the immune system and can lead to potentially serious reactions. Intolerances usually relate to digestion and do not trigger an immune response. Our clinicians can help identify which one is affecting you or your child.

Do I need a referral to attend the clinic?

No referral is required—you can book directly with us.

Are your services available for adults?

No. We are a paediatric allergy clinic and provide specialist care exclusively for children.

Do you do allergy testing and diagnosis?

Yes. Although this clinic focuses on immunotherapy, as well as food and antibiotic challenges, our specialists Aneta and Nick provide testing and diagnostic services through their private clinics. Our reception team can help arrange these appointments.

What is aeroallergy immunotherapy?

Aeroallergen immunotherapy is used to treat allergies to airborne triggers such as pollen, mould, and dust mites. By providing repeated, controlled exposure, it helps reduce symptoms like hay fever, asthma, and persistent sinus problems.

Is allergy immunotherapy effective?

Yes. Many patients have experienced significant improvements. You can read about their journeys on our case studies page.

Can you help with pet allergies?

Yes. We offer immunotherapy for allergies to animals such as cats and dogs, helping reduce symptoms and improve comfort around pets.
